What is Second Life?
Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by more than 3.4 million people from around the globe. From the moment you enter the Second Life world you will discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity. Since you can create virtually everything (huge houses, sports cars, designer clothes, etc.) in Second Life, you will find yourself surrounded by the creations of your fellow residents. Once you have explored a bit, perhaps you will find the perfect parcel of land on which to build your house or business. |

The Marketplace currently supports millions of US dollars in monthly transactions. This commerce is handled with the unit-of-trade for Second Life, the Linden dollar, which can be converted to US dollars at several thriving online Linden Dollar exchanges. Residents retain the rights to their digital creations, so they can buy, sell and trade with other residents. Many people already make their “real-world” living in Second Life and more are doing so everyday.
